WEEK 9: Preparing for Final Submission
100 Word Statement
"Balsa Wood is Best for Model Making during Year 1"
There has been a lot of debate regarding what materials and tools might be best to use
during the first year of model making. Over the course of a few weeks, I’ve experimented
with quite a few materials such as paper, cardboard and balsa wood, and it’s safe to say
that balsa wood gives the best result without too much effort. I found that paper was too
flimsy, too thin to give the building any structural integrity. Cardboard doesn’t give the
cleanest result and is also harder to cut neatly. Meanwhile, Balsa wood gives a clean and
neat result and if cutting is slanted or jagged, it can be easily smoothened by rubbing the
edges on sandpaper. Therefore, I’ve concluded that balsa wood is the best material to
use during the early years of model making.
